SESSION A:
Ozone Sanitization Of Pharmaceutical Water Systems

A New ISPE Good Practices Guide

This presentation will review the soon to be published ISPE Good Practice Guide- Ozone Sanitization of Pharmaceutical Water systems.  It will also discuss what precipitated this effort, and what might follow.
While use of ozone to sanitize water systems is well established within the pharmaceutical industry, up until now there has been no associated comprehensive design guide. Aware of this opportunity, Industry members have teamed together to develop such a document and shed light on previously word of mouth good practices.

Who should attend: -  eg. Quality Operations, Validation, Engineering, Utility, Process Design, and Project Professionals working in the Pharmaceutical field.

SPEAKER:
Philip E Sumner, MS, PE, Manager,  Pfizer Global Engineering

With 25+ years of engineering and construction management experience Philip has spent the last 10 years leading the design, build and operation of regulated water and utility projects at plants on a global basis with Pfizer Global Engineering.  He is responsible for developing and supporting system designs, new technologies and qualification improvement programs.  He has held a number of ISPE local chapter and COP-CU positions in addition to contributing to ISPE publications including the Water and Steam Systems and related Good Practice Guides.  He has a  BSCE and MS Environmental Engineering degrees from Tufts University and is registered Professional Engineer in the State of Connecticut.

SESSION B:

 "Combustible Dust Hazards,
And Explosion Protection Solutions"

Combustible Dusts have garnered national attention over the past 2 years because of some high profile fatal dust explosions at various manufacturing plants that handled "combustible dusts", and were not adequately protecting themselves from the potential hazards that exist if and when the dust is ignited.

The answers that the investigating parties (Chemical Safety Board, OSHA, Insurance Carriers, Legal teams, etc..)  received when asking "Why and How did this happen?", were unacceptable. This has prompted the U.S. Government to pass legislation to specifically address manufacturing hazards that include "combustible dusts", and we'll talk a little bit about what has come out of this legislation, and how you can make sure you and your customers are properly protected to avoid any future catastrophic events when handling "combustible dusts". We'll discuss:

  • What exactly is a "combustible dust", and how do I know if I have one?
  • What information is available out there to help me determine what needs to be done, or where I should start looking?
  • If it is determined that I in fact am handling a "combustible dust", what can I do to make sure I am protected?
  • Please bring your dust-related questions with you, and join us for this discussion!

SPEAKER:

Rick Seidel - Explosion Protection Sales Manager, Suppression Systems Incorporated - Pennsburg, PA

Rick Seidel has been with S.S.I. for 11 years, and designing explosion protection solutions for over 6 years. He has visited many different types of facilities over the years, and seen all types of equipment installed and operating in many types of environments and settings, each requiring its own dedicated type of protection, designed specifically for its environment. Rick is very familiar with the history of many of the codes and regulations that are being enforced in the field, and with what is on the horizon that many end-user clients are going to come up against.
